Get Rid Of The Smell On Leather Shoes

Usually when you buy a pair of leather shoes that are of good quality, the leather smell shouldn't be too overpowering; however, sometimes the smell is so strong that you'll need to clean and/or air the shoes out. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Remove the Leather Smell From Shoes

1. Air the shoes air out by removing them from the box and putting them in a room that is well-ventilated and free of moisture. Over time, wearing the shoes will also reduce the leather smell, but avoid moist weather conditions such as rain or snow.

2. Stuff the shoes with newspaper, and store them with paper wrapped around them as well. This will help absorb the scent because newsprint is a porous substance.

3. Wash the shoes with a soap that is safe for leather products, such as Murphy Oil Soap or saddle soap. Spray the shoes with the soap and then wipe down with a soft cloth.

4. Regularly apply a leather conditioner, such as linseed oil, to the shoes. Not only will you cut down on the smell, you'll increase the shoes' durability and texture.

5. Put an open plastic bag of baking soda in the shoes (when stored) to absorb both the leather scent and foot odor.
