Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars" marked the first entry in Rockstar Games' long-running "Grand Theft Auto" series to debut on the Nintendo DS handheld system. "Chinatown Wars" features a number of ways for players to tip the scales in their favor, including several codes, glitches and unlockable rewards that can make battling through Liberty much easier. You can also win several unlockable trophies to chronicle your accomplishments throughout the game.
Basic Equipment Cheats
Several cheat codes will grant you different equipment sets. To enter these cheats, simply enter the code during gameplay without pausing. To gain body armor, press "L," "L," "R," "B," "B," "A," "A" and "R." To gain explosive pistol rounds, press "L," "R," "X," "Y," "A," "B," "Up" and "Down."
Weapon Pack Cheats
Several weapon pack cheats will grant you a variety of weapons upon entry. Weapon pack one includes grenades, a nightstick, a pistol, a mini-gun, an assault rifle, a micro sub-machine gun and a sawed-off shotgun. To get this pack, press "R," "Up," "B," "Down," "Left," "R," "B" and "Right." Weapon pack two contains Molotov cocktails, a taser, dual pistols, a flamethrower, a carbine, a sub-machine gun and a double-barrel shotgun. To get this pack, press "R," "Up," "A," "Down," "Left," "R," "A" and "Right." Weapon pack three contains mines, a chainsaw, a revolver, a flamethrower, a carbine, a sub-machine gun and a double-barrel shotgun. To get this pack, press "R," "Up," "Y," "Down," "Left," "R," "Y" and "Right. Weapon pack four contains flash-bang grenades, a baseball bat, a pistol, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, a carbine, a micro sub-machine gun, and a sawed-off shotgun. To get this pack, press "R," "Up," "X," "Down," "Left," "R," "X" and "Right."
Weather Cheats
There are also several cheats to change the weather. Enter these cheats during gameplay without pausing to activate their effects. To change the weather to extremely sunny, press "Up, "Down," Left," "Right," "B," "X," "L" and "R." To change the weather to sunny, press "Up," "Down," "Left," "Right," "B," "Y," "R" and "L." To change the weather to cloudy, press "Up," "Down," "Left," "Right," "X," "Y," "L," and "R." To change the weather to foggy, press "Up," "Down," "Left," Right," "Y," "B," "R" and "L." To change the weather to rainy, press "Up," "Down," "Left," "Right," "Y," "A," "L" and "R." To change the weather to extremely rainy, press "Up," "Down," "Left," "Right," "A," "X," "R" and "L." To change the weather to a hurricane, press "Up," "Down," "Left," "Right," "B," "Y," "R" and "L."
General Utility Cheats
A couple of cheats can generally be used simply to improve your current situation. These codes are also entered during gameplay without pausing. To restore your health, press "L," "L," "R," "A," "A," "B," "B" and "R." To reduce your "Wanted" level, press "R," "X," "X," "Y," "Y," "R," "L" and "L." To increase your "Wanted" level, press "L," "L," "R," "Y," "Y," "X," "X" and "R."
Skip Taxi Hot-wiring
Whenever you steal an unoccupied taxi, you have to hot-wire it. If you don't feel like hot-wiring the cab, simply get in the car and start the hot-wiring process. Instead of actually hot-wiring the car, press "Select" instead to start the taxi missions. Once you're in the car, press "Select" again to cancel the mission. The taxi will still be running, and you will have completely bypassed hot-wiring the car.
Bulletproof Taxi
If you successfully pick up and drop of 15 people in a row while running taxi missions without the timer running down, all subsequent taxis will become bulletproof when you're inside them.
Unlock Bulletproof Hellenbach
To unlock the Bulletproof Hellenbach car, you'll need to register your Nintendo DS Friend Code over at the Rockstar Social Club (socialclub.rockstargames.com) website. Between May 1 and May 7, synching your game stats with the website will unlock the Bulletproof Hellenbach for purchase at the Boabo merchant.
Unlockable Cars
A number of cars can be unlocked for purchase at the Boabo Auto Merchant. Conditions vary, but typically require players to get at least a bronze in all races of a specific type, complete a mission, complete all missions from a given character or beat all story missions. Examples include unlocking the 500 XLR, which requires you to get a bronze medal in all Algonquin races; the Comet, which requires you to complete the mission "Jackin' Chan;" the Limo, which requires you to complete all of Guy's missions and the Rhino, which requires you to complete all story missions. Complete every mission and get at least a bronze in every race to unlock everything.
Unlockable Rewards
Attaining certain goals will earn you various rewards. Attaining a score of 10,000 or more for a single weapon will earn a gold medal for that weapon. By earning gold medals for every weapon, you can unlock a discount at the Ammu-Nation store. If you can earn a gold ranking in the fire truck mini-game, you'll become immune to fire damage. Completing all five waves of vigilante missions with a 100 percent kill rate will increase your body armor strength, while completing five paramedic missions will give you infinite sprinting ability. Completing five waves of paramedic missions with a 100 percent life-save rate will grant you the marathon ability. By beating both noodle delivery missions with a gold ranking, you will activate regeneration for your health. By beating both mail courier missions with a gold ranking, you'll receive an upgraded delivery bag.
Trophies
Attaining certain in-game achievements will earn you trophies, which can be found on your trophy shelf at your apartment. To unlock the Diamond Pillbox, begin selling hallucinogenic drugs in the drug-dealing mini-game. Similarly, the Jeweled Bong can be unlocked by selling depressants. To unlock the Golden Binoculars, you'll need to discover 40 drug dealers. By finding all 80 dealers in the game, you can unlock the Titanium Briefcase. To unlock the Jeweled Key to the City, you'll need to own all 21 safe houses in the city. If you purchase heroin, you will be awarded the Platinum Syringe. If you can make at least $2,000 in profit from a deal, you'll be awarded the Silver Safe. Conversely, if you lose at least $500 on a deal, you'll be awarded the Wooden Spoon trophy.
