Leather Furniture Care Treatment

Leather furniture can be a somewhat costly investment in your home's decor. Once you have decided upon leather furniture, take the care required to keep your leather furniture from cracking and fading. It would be a shame to purchase the nice leather sofa and have to throw it out in a year. When cared for properly, leather furniture will become softer and more comfortable year after year. Does this Spark an idea?

Placing Leather Furniture

Leather furniture needs to be placed not only where it will fit into the room but also where it will be protected. Sunlight from a window can cause fading, drying and cracking. If leather furniture must be placed in front of a window, make sure there are thick drapes to help protect the piece.

Cleaning Leather Furniture

Leather furniture should be wiped down every other day to lift away the dust and dirt that can get down in the surface of the leather. Light cleaning products are available from the furniture store. These are easy to use and no harder than using a dusting spray and cloth.

Every few months, leather furniture needs to be deeply cleaned using a cleanser formulated for leather, such as spray on saddle soap. This will clean and soften the leather as well as combat any dying or discoloration.

Moisturizing Leather Furniture

Each time you clean the leather furniture, you must also moisturize it. There are compounds and leather conditioners that you can buy. Most of these either spray or rub on and are then wiped off with a soft cloth. This leaves the leather soft, supple, flexible and protected.
