Pistol Rounds
A carbine is a short-length rifle that is fast and handy to shoot. Many modern carbines are chambered to fire pistol ammunition. This makes them cheap to shoot, with low recoil and higher magazine capacity due to the lower weight and cost of pistol ammunition. Glock magazines have a reputation for durability and are widely available. Glock doesn't make a carbine, but several manufacturers make carbines that accept Glock magazines.
Kel-Tec Sub2000
Built by Kel-Tec CNC Inc, the Sub2000 is a lightweight carbine chambered in either 9 mm Luger or .40 S&W. It can use Glock magazines for either caliber. A unique feature of this carbine is that it was designed to fold in the middle for storage; the folded weapon is only about 16 inches long and could fit into a briefcase. Kel-Tec is known for building simple and reliable firearms, and uses polymer extensively in their designs. The Sub2000 is almost all polymer, which makes it cheap and light.
AR-Pattern Carbines
The AR-15 platform can be bought or built in a dizzying array of variations, including pistol-caliber carbines. Several models exist that are designed to use Glock magazines and are chambered in 9 mm Luger or .40 S&W calibers. The most common of these are made by Olympic Arms, but Lone Wolf Distributors has recently started marketing parts to build a similar carbine. Although not as cheap as Kel-Tec's offering (they cost around $1,000 as of 2011), an AR-pattern carbine is a good option due to the vast amount of aftermarket accessories available.
EMF JR Carbine
A fairly new entrant to this area of carbines is Early and Modern Firearms, Inc. (EMF). They have recently started selling a carbine of their own design, which they call the Just Right Carbine. These weapons come in 9 mm Luger, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP and take Glock magazines. They are also ambidextrous and compatible with most AR-15 accessories. EMF is selling them for about $600 as of 2011, which puts them about in the middle of the pistol-caliber carbine market.
Mech Tech
Instead of building a carbine that takes Glock magazines, Mech Tech instead builds a kit that mates with a Glock pistol in order to convert it into a carbine. Called the Carbine Conversion Unit, this product mounts in place of the slide of a Glock pistol and turns it into a carbine. Models are available for most Glock pistols and cost around $300 as of 2011.
