Pack A Suit In A Duffel Bag

Roll your suit in towels to pack inside your duffel bag.

New requirements by airlines concerning baggage weights, charges for baggage and carry-on restrictions have caused travelers to resort to drastic measures when packing clothing in lightweight bags such as duffel bags. Even for travelers seeking ground or water transportation, maximizing the space in a smaller bag is essential. Packing a suit in a duffel bag can be done with care, but have access to an iron in case your bag takes a beating during travel resulting in wrinkled clothing.

Instructions

1. Roll socks into tight "jelly rolls" and insert a rolled sock into each dress shoe. Place a shoe/sock inside a zipper closure plastic bag, and repeat for the other shoe/sock. Place the bags at the bottom of your duffel bag.

2. Place a bath towel on a bed.

Spread a bath towel over a bed or table.

3. Grasp the waistband of your suit pants, folding the pants in half, vertically, along the back and front seam. Align the pant hems/cuffs and smooth flat. Vertically fold the zipper section inside the pants approximately 2-3-inches. Lay the folded pants on top of the towel. The pants may be longer than the towel.

4. Place the folded shirt on top of the folded pants.

Button the dress shirt, front and sleeves. Place the shirt, front down on top of the bed/table. Smooth shirt. Fold each sleeve in half at the elbow and then fold the folded sleeves over on top of the shirt back. Fold each side of the shirt over on top of the shirt back until the two sides meet evenly in the center of the shirt. Fold the tail of the folded shirt up on top of the shirt back so the tail and collar align. Place the folded shirt on top of the seat area of the smoothed, folded pants lying on top of the towel.

5. Begin at the top of the towel and roll, loosely, the pants and shirt. Continue rolling until you have rolled the entire length of the pants. Place this towel roll into the duffel bag horizontally on the left side of the bag.

6. Fold the suit jacket vertically.

Fold the suit jacket in half vertically along the back center seam, shoulders touching, so you are looking at one side of the lapels, front of the suit. Fold, at a diagonal at the elbows, the suit coat's sleeves inside of the fold, so the sleeves are sandwiched between the back of the suit coat.

7. Spread the other bath towel on the bed and place the folded suit coat on top of the towel. Fold your tie in half horizontally at the neck section. Place the folded tie between the suit coat layers inside the coat front.

8. Place the rolled towels inside the duffel bag.

Begin rolling the towel, loosely, rolling the suit coat inside of the towel. Place the rolled suit coat and tie into the duffel bag on the right side of the bag.
