Choose A Laptop Notebook

In the past, a laptop computer was one thing, and a notebook computer was another. Laptops were larger, had more memory and more features, and they weighed more. Over time, though, notebook computers became more and more powerful and capable, so that they came to displace the traditional laptop. These days, most manufacturers have shifted to producing notebooks and not laptops. The public however, still insists on calling that computer they are carrying a laptop. But the trick is deciding which laptop to buy.

Instructions

1. Define your needs. If you are going to be doing mostly typing, you can get by with a very basic system. But if if are going to be working with multimedia, with memory consuming images and video, you will need something more robust. Decide how much memory and speed you need.

2. Define your price range. You can find laptops that range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand, so you need to decide what you can afford.

3. In the store, check out the physical aspects of any laptop you are thinking about buying. Pick one that weighs no more than you think will be comfortable to carry around. Examine the size of the screen and the keyboard. Make sure the screen is bright and large enough to suit your needs, and that the keys depress smoothly. Then leave the laptop on for a time to see if the bottom badly overheats.

4. You want a laptop with wireless capabilities, since you may often need to work far away from a plugin. You also want as long a battery life as possible. Select one with at least a CD burner, though a DVD burner would be better because of its higher storage capabilities.

5. You will want to have USB connection ports since many peripherals now use USB to connect to your computer. If you are going to be editing video, you will also want a Firewire connection port.

6. Buy the sturdiest laptop case you can afford, since even the best built laptops are fairly fragile. The LCD screen is especially vulnerable, and is also the most expensive part to replace.
