A D ring is made of metal and is shaped like the letter D. Used for a variety of purposes, D rings are commonly employed in tie downs in truck beds and on utility trailers. Cargo is often secured in a truck bed or trailer by anchoring the load with rope which is attached to a D ring. Tying a rope to a D ring requires a sturdy knot which will withstand pressure and is reliable.
Instructions
1. Insert the free end of the rope through the D ring. Pull the rope through the D ring so that there are 12 to 14 inches of rope extending on the free or tag end.
2. Pass the free end of the rope through the D ring once again. Do not pull the rope down tight around the ring at this point.
3. Place the free end of the rope across the main length of rope just below the D ring. The knot should still be loose with a loop formed around the D ring.
4. Wrap the free end around the main rope and back up through the loop formed at the D ring. Guide the end back across the main line.
5. Wrap the free end around the main line and back up through the small loop formed by the free end. Pull the free end cinch the knot down tight.
