British Airways Baggage Limits

Baggage restrictions are an important consideration when packing for a trip.

Baggage allowances vary from one airline to the next and with plane size and journey length. British Airways uses baggage guidelines which are similar to most major carriers.

Checked Baggage

For checked baggage, British Airways allows each World Traveler passenger one piece up to 35.5 x 29.5 x 25.5 inches in size, with a maximum weight of 51 pounds. For World Traveler Plus passengers, two bags of the stated maximum size and a maximum weight of 51 pounds each are permitted. For Club Europe passengers, two bags of the standard size with a maximum weight of 70 pounds each are allowed, and for First Club World there is an allowance of three bags with a total of 70 pounds each.

Special Checked Baggage

If a passenger has extra bags to check on flights within Europe, the U.K. and Russia, there is a $40 fee per bag when checked in online, and a $50 fee per bag when checked in at the airport. If your bags are over 51 pounds and under 70 pounds the fee is $50 per bag. If your bags weigh more than 70 pounds the bags must be shipped as freight.

Carry-On Baggage

All British Airways passengers are allowed one carry-on bag and one handbag, briefcase or computer bag free of charge. Infants are allowed one bag in total. Carry-on bags must be 22 x 18 x 10 inches or smaller and handbags must be 18 x 14 x 8 inches or smaller.
