Spin A Combination Lock

Many middle school students use combination locks every day.

Students who don't plan on carrying all their books with them at all times must learn spin a combination lock. Most school lockers come equipped with circular, three-digit combination locks, including temporary gym lockers. Students may initially have trouble remembering the correct lock-spinning directions, but using a combination lock will soon become second nature.

Instructions

1. Look at your combination. New locks usually have the combination printed on the back. If using a school-issued locker, visit the main office to retrieve your combination if you never received it or have forgotten it.

2. Spin the lock's dial to the right at least three times. Stop when the arrow at the top of the dial lines up with the first number in the combination.

3. Spin the dial to the left a full time, skipping past the first number in the combination. Stop spinning when the arrow at the top of the dial lines up with the second number in the combination.

4. Spin the dial to the right. Stop spinning when the arrow lines up with the third number. You don't have to skip the first or second numbers before stopping at the third number.

5. Hold the U-shaped shackle at the top and pull down on the lock's body to release the lock. If the lock is built into a locker, pull up on the locker handle to open the door.
