Synchronize A Project On Different Pcs

Keeping project documents up-to-date on more than one computer can be time-consuming if each user needs to edit and update the documents separately. To synchronize project files on more than one PC, use the Windows Briefcase tool. Adding project documents to the Briefcase folder on each computer automatically synchronizes the project each time a user updates a file on any computer. You can synchronize Briefcase folders across a network or with removable media such as an external hard drive or USB flash drive.

Instructions

1. Click "Start" on the Windows desktop taskbar. Select "Computer" from the Start menu. Go to the folder that contains the project document you want to synchronize on other computers.

2. Right-click on a blank area anywhere inside the open folder window. Click "New" in the context menu, then select "Briefcase." Enter a name for the Briefcase into the applicable input box, such as the name of the project.

3. Highlight and select the project documents and files. Drag and drop the files onto the Briefcase folder to add them to the folder.

4. Right-click the Briefcase folder. Select "Copy" from the options context menu to copy the Briefcase folder and its contents.

5. Go to the network location of the second computer. If the computer's not on the network, go to the drive location of the external drive in the Computer folder. Paste the copied Briefcase folder at this location. Repeat this step for each computer on which you want to synchronize the project.

6. Open the Briefcase folder and edit or amend the project files or documents inside the folder. When you've finished updating the documents, right-click the Briefcase folder. Select "Update All" from the context menu to synchronize the project files to the Briefcase.
