Polish Leather

Leather is a beautiful material that never goes out of style. Widely used in purses, briefcases, shoes or jackets for men and women, this durable and classic material can last a long time with the right care. Providing a basic polish once or twice a year will keep the leather supple, remove scuffs and dirt and restore the original color. Polishing your leather clothing or shoes will take no more than hour, but it'll keep them in good shape for many years to come. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Chose a wax, paste or cream polish for leather (such as for shoes or a jacket). Wax provides a better shine, but can cause leather to dry out. Pastes and creams, which usually contains mineral oils, moisturize leather, keeping it flexible and breathing (allowing moisture and air to pass through the material as it is worn).

2. Change into old clothes you don't mind dirtying and spread newspapers on the working surface--such as a table or the floor--for additional protection.

3. Remove any dirt and dust from your leather item, cleaning in a circular motion with a soft, damp cloth and the detergent. If the leather is stained or extremely dirty, you may try a cleaner such as Murphy's Oil Soap.

If the leather has old polish on it - such as shoes or boots - you can remove this by soaking a rag in mineral spirits and rubbing this into the leather. Allow the item to dry for five to 10 minutes.

4. Apply your chosen polish with a dry and clean soft rag, rubbing the polish in small circles across the leather. Allow this to dry on the leather for 15 to 20 minutes.

5. Rub the polish off with another clean and dry cloth with a soft texture. This will bring out the lustre and shine of the leather.
