Build A Pedal Effects Board

A pedal effects board is a box used to hold guitar effects pedals. The box usually has a power strip built into it to plug several 9-volt power adaptors into the box to power the effects. You can purchase a high-dollar effects board at most music stores or you could save a lot of money and build one for yourself out of an old briefcase. You can also use an aluminum case used for items such as power drills. They offer superior protection for your pedals if you play live shows and they look nice, too. You can get an aluminum case at most home improvement stores that sell tools.

Instructions

1. Remove the lining or foam padding from the briefcase or aluminum case. Peel one corner of the lining up and pull it out of the case. Leave the lining in, if desired. Padding must removed to allow room for the pedals.

2. Place all of the pedals into the briefcase, and close the lid to make sure the lid closes. Remove the lid from the brief case and just use the bottom section if the lid won't close.

3. Drill a hole with a hand drill and a hole saw into one side of the briefcase that is large enough to slide the plug of the power strip through.

4. Spray the inside of the case with a foam adhesive, and line the inside of the case with felt material used for hook and loop fasteners. This material is called the "hook." Apply the material to the bottom inside of the case.

5. Secure the other side of the "loop" material to the bottom of each pedal to be installed into the case. Secure this material to the back of the power strip.

6. Place the cord of the power strip through the hole in the case, and secure the power strip in the bottom of the case along back corner.

7. Secure each pedal, evenly spaced, to the hook and loop pad.

8. Plug one-foot patch cords between each pedal to connect them as they normally would be when setting up the pedal configuration.

9. Plug each 9-volt power adaptor into the pedals, and then into the power strip.

10. Pull the power strip cord into the pedal case, wrap it neatly and place it beside the power strip. Close the case. The pedals are secured and protected.
