The Panasonic Toughbook CF-29, also referred to as the Toughbook-29, is a notebook laptop released in in 2004 and made by consumer electronics manufacturer Panasonic. The Toughbook series was a range of products that were designed to withstand very rough handling, such as impact shocks, scrapes and damp conditions.
Processor
The Toughbook CF-29 uses an Intel Pentium M Processor LV 77. Intel produced the M, or Mobile, series as a low-voltage solution for use in mobile devices, such as laptops. The low-voltage requirement extends battery life and it means that the processor remains cooler to avoid overheating. This single core processor has an overall speed of 1.66 gigahertz and a front-side bus speed of 400 megahertz. It uses a 2MB L2 cache.
Memory
The Toughbook CF-29 comes with 512MB of DDR2 SDRAM as standard, although this is reduced to 256MB in the 60GB hard drive edition. However, there is room to upgrade this to a maximum of over 1GB for better performance.
Storage
The Toughbook CF-29 comes with an 80GB hard drive as standard, although a 60 GB model is also available. This is large enough to fit the pre-installed Windows XP operating system, with room left over for program and personal files.
Screen
The Toughbook CF-29 has a 13.3-inch TFT LCD screen with a high resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels. This is a touchscreen for the 80 GB model but not for the 60 GB model. This was a very early use of touchscreen technology in a commercial laptop.
Dimensions
The Toughbook CF-29 measures 11.8 inches wide, 9.5 inches deep and 2.5 inches tall. It weighs 7.9 pounds and when closed can be carried like a briefcase using a built-in carry-handle.
Battery
The Toughbook CF-29 uses a single lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 7.65 ampere-hours. This provides a running time of up to 8 hours and takes 4.7 hours to fully recharge.
