Milkshakes bring back memories of the '50s.
Some people descibe the 1950s as the golden age of America---where young people refrained from such distasteful habits as sex and drugs. Carhops and malt diners were popular hangouts for young teenagers and are popular to this day as vintage-inspired restaurants like Johnny Rockets still operate successfully. So if you're looking for a fun '50s inspired costume, consider dressing up as a '50s waitress.
Carhop Girl
The 1950s were a time of rock and roll, drive-in picture shows and cool cars. All the cool cats took their friends to the carhop, where the waitresses would roll over to the car's window and ask those inside what they wanted to eat. These carhop girls typically wore their hair up in a high ponytail, with a poodle skirt, white button-up shirt and roller skates. For safety and comfort's sake, you may want to wear canvas shoes, however. They also would wear a small apron with pockets to hold their receipt pads. You will want to carry with you a serving plate, possibly with some fake food glued on to it, such as a milkshake or a burger with fries.
Diner Girl Attacked by the Blob
The classic 1958 science fiction movie "The Blob" had its characters running for their lives to get away from a green and menacing, extraterrestrial ooze. One of the major scenes in the movie involves the Blob engulfing an entire diner. To portray one of the waitresses at the diner, you can simply find some relevant '50s attire, which includes a pair of canvas shoes, horn-rimmed glasses and waitress uniform. Then, splatter some green hair gel all over your costume, also adding clumps of it to your hair, face and body. To further enhance the look, you can grab some neon green body and fabric paints and douse your costume, face and hair it it.
Death by Jukebox
If you want to gore up the clean and simple style personified by the '50s waitress, you can create a storyline with your costume that has you dead at the hands of an evil jukebox. To create the look, you'll simply need to first find clothing that personifies the time and position of the waitress. You can then find some old records, preferably the small 78-sized vinyl, and smash them into pieces. Using a hot glue gun, you can then glue the record pieces onto your costume, using double-stick tape to attach the edges of small bits of records onto the sides of any visible body parts. Adding blood and messing up your hairstyle should complete the look.
