Mold thrives in damp, humid, dark places and can grow on a variety of surfaces. The dark, stifling interior of a suitcase can easily attract mold. If clothing items wet from sweat and water activities are placed inside suitcases, they will create the perfect breeding environment for mold and its spores. Instructions
Rubbing Alcohol
1. Dampen a soft cloth with warm water.
2. Wipe the surface mold off the suitcase with the cloth.
3. Mix 1 cup of rubbing alcohol or distilled white vinegar and 1 cup of water. Pour the solution into a spray bottle.
4. Spray the suitcase with the solution. Allow the mixture to sit on the suitcase for several minutes.
5. Saturate a sponge in the rubbing alcohol-water mixture. Gently scrub the moldy areas of the suitcase with the sponge.
6. Lay the open suitcase in direct sunlight for 30 minutes to one hour. Point fans at the open suitcase to aid in the drying process.
Borax
7. Pour 2 cups of hot water into a bowl.
8. Add ½ cup of borax to the hot water. Mix the contents thoroughly until the borax is completely dissolved.
9. Saturate a sponge in the solution.
10. Rub the mold with the saturated sponge until the area is damp.
11. Allow the solution to soak into the mold for several hours.
12. Wipe the solution off the suitcase using a cloth saturated in cool water.
13. Allow the suitcase to air-dry.
