CT Summation is a common database program used in litigation.
CT Summation is a common legal database program. As with many such programs, knowing use specific formats of files can be key to successful use of the program. In CT Summation, PDFs can be treated in the same manner as TIFFs, being loaded as images, produced as images, and put into the "briefcase" for each case. To use PDFs in Summation appropriately, they must be coded and loaded properly.
Instructions
1. Gather the PDFs to be loaded into Summation. Decide what fields of information will be important in the litigation, such as date, author, etc. Produce a load file for the PDFs. The load file for CT Summation is a .dII file extension and is usually produced either using third party software or by having a legal service bureau produce the file. It will contain all the information regarding each PDF.
2. Load the PDFs to the server running CT Summation. The location of the images is critical, and it must be loaded under the correct case, in the images folder.
3. Select the "Case Explorer." Under the "File" menu, hover your cursor over the "Load Documents" option and select "Load DII File." Browse to the DII file. Select "load" and the DII file will load the appropriate references for your PDF files.
4. Utilize the PDFs as you would any TIFF file in Summation. The PDF can be turned into text using the OCR base in Summation, searched, indexed, and marked for production.
